Service Description

Join us for a 6 week course as we introduce you and your child to a form of communication that will work for you both. When babies and non verbal children can’t communicate constructively, they get frustrated, leading to tantrums and meltdowns. We have all experienced the feeling of helplessness when trying to comfort an inconsolable baby, guessing at what they want. Our focus is more British sign language focused, than Makaton- mainly as Beth who's leading it is profoundly deaf, and has grown up around BSL/SSE, combined with her Baby sign Diploma this felt the best route to take, that sets us apart from other baby sign classes - we feel teaching BSL focused baby sign will benefit you both as your child grows, but also benefit others if you ever come across deaf people or children in your day to day life. Baby Sign Language lets babies communicate what they want, and builds strong bonds between themselves and their adults. They can tell you if they want their teddy bear, when they are hungry, if they want milk, if it is too hot, or if their tummy hurts and more. Families that sign report that both parents and child experience less frustration. It also allows bilingual children to learn 2 languages easier as they have a connection between the 2 words using signs. Spending hours trying to guess why your baby is distraught is a useless way to lose a night of sleep. Baby Sign Language helps both you and your baby address the root cause of tantrums and allows both of you to spend more time enjoying each other’s company. Repetition is key so we have set this up as a 6-week course to set you on your journey as opposed to pay weekly as with our other sessions, to encourage you to keep signing in the weeks between and be able to take home different signs each week. We will cover Basics Everyday signs, Animals, Emotions, Family, Colours and Play- through Talk, song and play. That said we do have a pay as you go option at £8.50 a class (£1.50 more) We are running just 1 age group this term- 4 months+ with babies, the class allows the adult to pick up more and pass it on to the children in their own time, so if your little one falls asleep during, or your child doesn't want to take part- that's ok. This will be taking place at the Oak at Kingshill, in their function room accessible from the side by the carpark.

Cancellation Policy

Circumstances happen and sometimes you may need to cancel, however to ensure people can book any cancellation slots we need to give them notice so will be capping this at 7 days before, If you need to cancel after this time the fee is non-refundable however you can offer the spot up on Woodfield tots forum on Facebook they can pay you for your place or contact Beth for assistance with filling the slot as there could sometimes be a waiting list- though this cannot be guaranteed. - Please let us know if another person is taking you place or they may be turned away.
